1a space, founded in 1998, is an independent, non-profit making contemporary visual arts organization and exhibition venue founded by a collective of Hong Kong artworkers. Over the past twenty years, 1a space has presented and organized more than 160 exhibitions and activities. 1a space has played a vital role in developing new frontiers for the visual arts scene in Hong Kong and its representation abroad.
1a space is now seeking a high caliber candidate to join us in the capacity of as Gallery Manager. Responsibilities:
Management of daily gallery operations, including budgeting and grant-writing
Managing exhibition schedules and Strategic development of the programme and perform social impact measurement for sustainability growth
Coordination with curators, artists, and project partners in project fulfillment
Supervise the administration team to make sure the smooth operation of the gallery and implementation of programme
Maintaining professional, inspiring gallery appearance including hanging and placement of artworks
Lead the overall programme to reach programme goals
Reaching new institutional partners and audience for exhibition and public programmes
Shaping overall vision, identity, and branding of programme
Supervise the programme team to make sure the smooth implementation of the programme
Liaise with curators, artists, programme partners and institutional partners for the planning and implementation of Programme
Financial controlling, manage and oversee the programme budget
Qualifications and work experience:
Degree in art history, visual art or fine art, art management, art education, curatorial studies or museum studies, or related disciplines
At least 8 years' working experience in art, NGOs, charity / community project management, academics, and/or social service settings, preferably at managerial level
Excellent writing skills (in both English and Chinese) and interpersonal / communication skills
Equivalent experience working in the art and cultural industry particularly with project management experience.
Ability to work independently and dynamically with different organizations including education partners and cultural institutions
Highly driven, highly organized, able to execute maintain effective communication with funders and program partners
Optimist, devoted, self-motivated, detail-minded, efficient and with good communication skills
