【Artist-in-Residency Programme】Fill in the Space: Open Call for Artists

1a space is pleased to announce Fill in the Space, an artist-in-residency programme which aims at creating a shared space for creative dialogues and artistic exchanges. The programme is opened to Hong Kong artists and artist collectives aged 18 or above working in the field of contemporary art. Up to 4 successful applicants will be eligible to use 1a space’s main gallery as their shared studio for a period of two months free of charge. The application deadline is Sunday 18 April 2021.

Fill in the Space focuses on applicants’ artistic process and the experimentations that results from working alongside other artists. The two-month residency will provide plenty of opportunities for interactions that cross the boundaries between different art forms and disciplines. As a studio-based residency, it offers time for introspective reflection, as well as a communal space for artists to share and leave their marks on each other’s thoughts. Through the experience of peer-learning and co-creating without the pressure of material outcome, the programme seeks to foster and sense of commonality among artists. Therefore, we welcome open-minded artists or artists collectives who are willing to exchange insights and to learn together through inclusion and positivity.

The residency

The residency programme will run from 3 May to 27 June 2021. Successful applicants will have access to a shared studio space in the diverse artist community in Cattle Depot Artist Village. The shared studio is furnished with basic equipment and is around 2000 square feet for 4 artists. This is not a live-in residency, however there is a leisure area with minimal kitchenette and pantry stocked with basic supplies. The programme also offers every artist at the residency material allowance and the opportunity to participate in weekly informal gatherings with fellow residency artists, field trips to visit established artists’ studio etc.
