If you are passionate about art and looking for an internship experience with flexible working schedule during your studying, welcome to join the 1a space Internship Programme – 2019/2020 to explore one of the most prominent art organization in Hong Kong. It is a unique opportunity for current students in Arts, culture and humanities disciplines in obtaining contemporary art exhibition experience in a gallery setting. The intern will work closely with the management team of 1a space to gain insights into art/cultural project development, event logistics, exhibition setup and dismantling, as well as other art administrative tasks. Internship Schedule: Application period: now until 26th August 2019 Duration: September 2019 to March 2020 (6 months) Working hours: Part time - Working dates are negotiable You will be able to: - work closely with curators and artists to organize art events - participate in large-scale outreach and public event including festival and art fair - gain practical training in curatorial work through active involvement in our exhibition preparations and logistics, while working closely with the team members of 1a space to assist in exhibition installation and dismantling, opening events, exhibition reception, guided tours and other administrative work of the gallery Successful candidates for the Internship will be provided with travel allowance. Day camp summary: 4 days of intensive creative practices will be led by local artists through collaboration and communication between participants of different ethnicity. Through different combinations of body and materials, we are inspired to reinterpret the definition and meaning of a book. 2. He is the recipient of the 2007 Chief Executive's Award for Teaching Excellence (Arts Education). Community engagement is central to his practice, which includes his role as chair of Video Power (1999–2002), committee member of Curriculum Development (Visual Art) Education Bureau (2004–2013), chair of Center of Community Cultural Development (2010–currently) and committee member of Society of Indigenous Learning (2013–currently). Yeung has been an art education columnist with Sunday Mingpao since 2009. YU Shuk Pui Bobby Born in Hong Kong, traveling in time to visit Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Chaozhou before seven years old. She makes conceptual artworks, sculptures, and performances, using the body as a medium. By creating situations and breaking the passivity of the spectator. Has learnt book-binding while studied in school. In the past three years, she has sustained a preoccupation with sexual politics and female exploitation. Start from this year, she’s fascinated on gene and human body extension. Bobby received a BA from Hong Kong Baptist University. She has exhibited her works at Listhus Gallery(Iceland); A Place Gallery & Studios(Florida); Youkobo Art Space Gallery(Tokyo); Swatch Art Peach Hotel(Shanghai); Para-site, 100ft. Gallery, 1a Space(Hong Kong). She has completed several residencies at 3331 Art Chiyoda (Tokyo), 435 Art Studio(Taiwan) and Listhus Space (Iceland). Some of her book-binding works are collected by Hong Kong Art Museum and Savannah College of Arts and Design(Hong Kong). IP Wai Lung Born in the Guangdong Province, China, Ip Wai Lung is a local artist residing in Hong Kong now. In 1996, he moved to Hong Kong with his mother for a family reunion with his father right before the handover. As an immigrant, identity has always been an issue for him despite being educated in Hong Kong since his young age. In 2015, he went to Tibet to practise Zen Buddhism, such experience further confirmed his determination of becoming an artist. Ip is a self-learned artist who has participated in a number of local co-exhibitions and held personal exhibitions including Para Site and C&G. His artwork explores political issues, taboos and identities in a spontaneous and humorous fashion. Ip believes in the power of public art, he interferes in the existing social systems with his artwork, through the conversations with different entities he delves into the possibility of having new systems in a bid to reconstruct the imagination of society and the world from a personal perspective. ( 中文版 見底部) Art@Kowloon City District - Together About the project: According to statistics from the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department in 2010, Kowloon City District has a population of about 365,800, of which about 92% are Chinese , the remaining are ethnic minorities such as Filipinos, Indonesians, Japanese, Indians, Thais and Pakistanis, etc. As compared with the overall ratio of ethnic minorities which is about 5% for Hong Kong, this district has a relatively large group of ethnic minority inhabitants. To promote and enhance the communication between different ethnic groups in the society, 1a space and local artists will conduct creative workshops for local residents including ethnic minority inhabitants. The workshops will be conducted in Cantonese and English. About the Workshop: Inspired by the vibrant culture and languages of the ethnic minority, workshops will explore the Demographic and Social Structure of Kowloon City district by using recycled materials from the community. The workshops will work effectively with other social service institutions in the district serving Ethnic Minorities. Workshops will be divided into two categories: 1) two-dimensional creative workshop (for age 5 – 11) and 2) three-dimensional creative workshop ( age 12 or above). Exhibition will be held to display the artwork of the participants. Target Group: Both Chinese and ethnic minority residents in Kowloon City district are all welcomed. Travel Documents: Travel documents include (without limitation) airline tickets, hotel vouchers, tour vouchers or any other document (whether in electronic form or otherwise) used to confirm an arrangement with a service provider. Travel documents may be subject to certain conditions and/or restrictions including (without limitation) being non-refundable, non-date-changeable and subject to cancellation and/or amendment fees. All travel documents are non transferable. All airline tickets must be issued in the name of the passport/photo identity holder, some carriers will deny carriage if the name varies and the booking may be cancelled. It is your responsibility to collect all travel documents from us prior to travel. Please contact your consultant the day before collection to confirm that the travel documents are ready for collection. Schedule Changes: It is your responsibility to contact us prior to travel to ensure the scheduled departure time has not changed. Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend that you take out appropriate travel insurance to cover your travel arrangements. Travel insurance is also strongly recommended. 1a space, its respective officers and members shall not be liable to the participant for (a) any injury, damage, death, loss, accident, delay to person or property directly or indirectly attributable to or arising out of this tour; (b) any refund due to the cancellation of the tour or portion thereof unless such refund is received from the appointed travel agent. Passports & Visas: All travellers must have a valid passport for international travel and many countries require at least 6 months validity from the date of return and some countries require a machine-readable passport. When assisting with an international travel booking, we will assume that all travellers on the booking have a valid passport. If this is not the case, you must let us know. It is important that you ensure that you have valid passports, visas and re-entry permits which meet the requirements of immigration and other government authorities. Any fines, penalties, payments or expenditures incurred as a result of such documents not meeting the requirements of those authorities will be your sole responsibility (except to the extent caused by fault on our part). We do not warrant the accuracy of information provided by any external service and accept no liability for any loss or damage, which you may suffer in reliance on it (except to the extent caused by fault on our part). Carriers publish baggage allowances applicable for carriage over their own services. Allowances include cabin baggage and checked baggage. These allowances tend to be based on a weight allowance or a piece system. We recommend you check your baggage allowance carefully, as you may incur a charge for the carriage of baggage in excess of their free baggage allowance. Carriers also publish baggage safety notices, which detail items that cannot be carried or can only be carried in checked baggage. Again, we recommend you ask your chosen carrier about the applicable baggage safety requirements. Travel Advice Health: You must ensure that you are aware of any health requirements and recommended precautions relevant to your travel and to ensure that you carry all necessary vaccination documentation. In some cases, failure to present required vaccination documentation (e.g. proof of Yellow Fever vaccination) may deny you entry into a country. We recommend that you consultant with your local doctor, travel medical service or specialist vaccination clinic before commencing your travel. Taxes: Airline taxes are subject to change and are confirmed at the time your airline ticket is issued. There may also be a local tax charged at some airports. Our Change and Cancellation Fees: The following fees apply if we change or cancel any bookings at your request: The deposit is non-refundable, once we received the deposit, we will process the booking for you. Changes to International bookings will incur a fee per passenger per booking as specified in your service agreement in addition to supplier fees. Cancellations to International bookings will incur a fee per passenger per booking as specified in your service agreement in addition to supplier fees. Supplier Change and Cancellation Fees: Cancelled bookings may also incur supplier fees, which can be up to 100% of the cost of the booking, regardless of whether travel has commenced. Supplier fees may also apply where a booking is changed and when tickets or documents are re-issued. Where we incur any liability for a supplier cancellation fee for any booking which you change of cancel, you agree to indemnify us for the amount of that fee. Where you seek a refund for a cancelled booking for which payment has been made to the supplier, we will not provide a refund to you until we receive the fund from that supplier. If it is for personal reasons that you wish to withdraw from the tour, we will normally charge you a service fee or even forfeit your tour fare in accordance with our stipulated provisions. However, it is also possible that we may adopt a different approach because of your special situation. If you have taken out travel insurance, you may claim your loss from the insurance company according to the cover of your policy. Agency: We act as an agent for and sell various travel related products as agent on behalf of numerous transports, accommodation and other service providers, such as airlines, coach, rail and cruise line operators as well as all of our wholesalers. Our obligation to you is to (and you expressly authorize us to) make travel bookings on your behalf and to arrange relevant contracts between you and travel service providers. We exercise care in the selection of reputable service providers, but we are not ourselves a provider of travel services and have no control over, or liability for, the services provided by third parties. All bookings are made on your behalf subject to the terms and conditions including conditions of carriage and limitations of liability imposed by these service providers. We can provide you with copies of the relevant service provider terms and conditions on request. Your legal rights in connection with the provision of travel services are against the specific provider and except to the extent a problem is caused by fault on our part are not against us. Specifically, if for any reason (excluding fault on our part), any travel service provider is unable to provide the services for which you have contracted your remedy lies against that provider and not against us. Liability: To the extent permitted by law, we do not accept any liability in contract, tort or otherwise for any injury, damage, loss (including consequential loss), delay, additional expense or inconvenience caused directly or indirectly by the acts, omissions or default, whether negligent or otherwise, of third party providers over whom we have no direct control, force majeure or any other event which is beyond our control which is not preventable by reasonable diligence on our part. Our liability will also be limited to the extent that any relevant international conventions, limit the amount of compensation which can be claimed for death, injury, or delay to passengers and loss, damage and delay to luggage. Under circumstances where our liability cannot be excluded and where liability may be lawfully limited, such liability is limited to the remedies required of us under applicable law. Special Requirements: Please liaise with us regarding any special requirements you may have for your travel arrangements such as special meal and seating requests, room type or disabled access. Frequent Flyer: When booking with us, please let us know your frequent flyer membership details (or other applicable loyalty program details) for inclusion in your booking. Please check your frequent flyer program (or other applicable loyalty program) for the specific terms of your membership. We cannot guarantee that the supplier will credit you with points for your booking. Payments by Cheque: Please note that cheque payments (excluding bank cheques) require about 5 business days to process. If you are paying by this method you will need to make the payment at least 5 business days prior to the actual due date. You agree not to stop payment of the cheque even when you cancel a booking. You agree that we may apply the proceeds of the cheque to satisfy any liability you have to us, including any liability in respect of cancellation fees, before refunding the balance to you. Privacy Policy: We are committed to protecting your personal information and agree to handle your personal information in accordance with strictly private and confidential. By providing personal information to us, you agree to how we handle your personal information and you consent to us collecting, your personal information will use and disclose for the travel. In particular, you agree that in certain circumstances (such as where you request us to book international travel for you), we are permitted to disclose your personal information to overseas recipients. Such recipients may include the overseas travel service providers (e.g. airlines, accommodation or tour providers) with whom you make a booking. These travel service providers will in most cases receive your personal information in the country in which they will provide the services to you or in which their business is based. We may also disclose your personal information to our overseas related entities and to service providers who perform services for us within and outside of Hong Kong. Generally, we will only disclose your personal information to these persons in connection with facilitation of your travel booking and/or to enable the performance of administrative and technical services by them on our behalf. Where we disclose your personal information to any person (including all overseas recipients), you agree that we will not be required to ensure that person’s compliance with Hong Kong privacy laws or otherwise be accountable for how they handle your personal information. When used above, “disclose” includes to transfer, share, send, or otherwise make available or accessible to another person or entity. Governing Law: If any dispute arises between you and us the laws of Hong Kong will apply. You irrevocably and unconditionally submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong, and waive any right that you may have to object to an action being brought in those courts. - 2017 Edition of Art Basel's Show in Hong Kong School Tour is now Open For Registration
Art Basel will return to Hong Kong from 23 - 25 March, 2017 for its fifth edition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. 1a space proudly presents guided tours to secondary school teachers and students aged 14 or above by local artists or arts students from tertiary education, during the show period from 23 (Thur)-24 (Fri) March, 2017. A FREE one-day admission ticket will be issued to successful applicant. Registration for a maximum of 18 students and two accompanying teachers is available for each school. For interested parties, please download the application form: 2017ABHK_Application form. To register for the upcoming Art Basel School tour, kindly complete the application form and submit by email (info@oneaspace.org.hk) or in person to 1a space on or before 28 February 2017. Please register in advance to ensure Your place in limited quotas. You will receive a confirmation email with 1a space Company chop and confirmation number once Your application is successful. Please note the followings for registration: 1) All participants must be aged 14 or above. 2) The recommended minimum chaperone student ratio is 1: 10 (1 teacher with 10 students). During the tour, participants are not allowed to leave independently. 3) All schools must use the Expo Drive entrance, and proceed directly to the dedicated School Group Cloakroom. 4) All recording and photo taking devices are not permitted at the fair. 5) For safety and security reasons, backpacks, suitcases and trolleys of any size are not allowed. Bags, briefcases and similar items larger than 16" x 8" x 16" (40 x 20 x 40 cm) must be deposited at the coat check. Only one bag per person is allowed.
